Vision
Since 2014, a number of institutions have collaborated with the vision to develop Slotsholmen and the surrounding urban area with the goal of creating a central cultural district.
Today, Copenhagen Cultural District consists of 16 cultural institutions: Museum of Copenhagen, Thorvaldsen’s Museum, Nikolaj Kunsthal, Kunstforeningen GL STRAND, DAC – Danish Architecture Center, Danish War Museum, the Danish Parliament, Tivoli, Copenhagen City Archives, National Museum of Denmark, Christiansborg Palace, the Theatre Museum in the Court Theatre, Danish Jewish Museum, the Kings’ Lapidarium , The Black Diamond – The Royal Library and BLOX.
The ambition is for Copenhagen Cultural District to be the cultural center of the city. The district should be a place to be inspired, a place to seek out enriching cultural experiences – but also a place to relax and recharge for both locals and tourists. The cultural district is home to some of Copenhagen’s most significant cultural and democratic institutions, positioning itself as a key player in the immersive sharing of history, knowledge, and cultural development in an increasingly fragmented world.
Copenhagen Cultural District is on a mission to:
- Gain worldwide recognition as a top-notch destination for experiences.
- Serve as a workspace for creating sustainable tourism models.
- Lead efforts in promoting accessibility, inclusion, and diversity.
- Be known and loved by locals and visitors alike.
