Visit Christiansborg Palace – the official workplace of the Danish Crown. View the Royal Reception Rooms to see where the King hosts audiences and gala dinners, signs laws, celebrates royal jubilees and receives official state visitors. Listen to the story of the impressive rooms, their décor and the works of art they contain, and explore the tapestries created by artist Bjørn Nørgaard, depicting more than a thousand years of Danish history.

The Royal Kitchen gleams with coppery splendour, boasting one of Europe’s largest collection of copperware. The kitchen is equipped exactly as it was on 15 May 1937 – the day on which the twenty-fifth jubilee of Christian X was celebrated with a gala dinner. The pots bubble away, the smell of cooking meats and poultry tantalise the nose, and the artful cakes and beautiful floral arrangements delight the eye.

Go underground to explore the ruins of fortresses and castles of the past. They relate the story of the Slotsholmen (the Castle Islet) and the eight centuries of political intrigue they have seen. See the royal household’s beautiful horses in the Royal Stables and view the King’s selection of horse-drawn carriages, including the Golden Carriage covered in 24-carat gold leaf. Don’t forget to visit the imposing Palace Church: stand under the dome and feel the world spin around you as you stare up at the painted angels soaring thirty metres above your head.
