Thorvaldsens Museum

Join us, when we celebrate the beginning of the end (of summer) and the opening of QUARTER TO WEEKEND – the Cultural District’s late summer festival. The opening party will take place at the beautiful front staircase of Thorvaldsens Museum, with Denmark’s most colorful museum as backdrop. The Danish country/pop duo, Gorgeous, will set the perfect late summer mood with a free concert at 6PM. From 4PM we serve free glasses of wine for the lucky ones – first come, first served. Free entrance, everyone is welcome!

Danish Architecture Center

Join us in the Family Workshop at the Danish Architecture Center every day during the summer holidays! Here, children and adults can build small, sustainable clay homes for earthworms and create Easter decorations inspired by nature’s spirals and patterns – all inspired by the exhibition Age of Nature.

Danish Jewish Museum

Join us for a free introduction to the Danish Jewish Museum and get a lively introduction to both the exhibitions and the museum. You will learn about Danish-Jewish history – conveyed through Daniel Libeskind’s unique architecture, where the rooms themselves help tell the story. You do not need to register – just show up and let us give you an inspiring start to your visit. The introduction is free when you have bought a ticket to the museum.

Nikolaj Kunsthal

Join us for an exclusive walk & talk in Nikolaj Kunsthal’s two current solo exhibitions. Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm and Maria Wæhrens will each introduce their exhibition and share insights into their ideas, processes, and practice. At the Lower Gallery, Skjødt Hasselstrøm creates a monumental sound installation where cosmic rays and detector technology make the inaudible sensorially present. At the Upper Gallery, Wæhrens unfolds an expressive total installation with painting, sculpture, and wall painting in dialogue with the art centre’s architecture. Introduced by Aukje Lepoutre Ravn.

Tivoli Gardens

Experience a one-of-a-kind encounter with contemporary art by some of the Nordic region’s most acclaimed artists. CHART in Tivoli is a collaboration with the leading Nordic art fair CHART – the exhibition can be experienced in the Parterre Garden, as well as one work of art on the Tivoli Lake. In total, the exhibition consists of 11 unique works curated specifically for Tivoli.

Danish Jewish Museum

Join the museum’s curator for an unique guided tour of the Danish Jewish Museum. On the tour you will gain an in-depth insight into 400 years of Danish Jewish history and an understanding of the thoughts behind the museum’s spectacular architecture. Along the way, we will take you through our exhibitions “The Gate to Denmark” and “Flight and Persecution in the 20th Century”.

Vartov – Grundtvigsk Forum

The duo Svaneborg Kardyb takes the stage in Vartov’s Green Courtyard for a concert filled with musical poetry. Rooted in jazz, folk, and Nordic soundscapes, the duo creates music that feels both intimate, dreamlike, and deeply alive. Svaneborg Kardyb is known for their intense musical interplay and improvisational spirit—music that emerges in the moment and makes room for silence, reflection, and powerful emotions.

Join us for a weekend filled with art and debate. Gammel Strand invites you to a mini festival in connection with the opening of the autumn exhibitions Olivia Holm-Møller and Still Joy. The exhibitions open on Friday, 18 September, and throughout the weekend you can experience a programme full of talks, performances, and plenty of great art. Danish Jewish Museum

Join us for a special evening in the museum’s atmospheric spaces, where you can explore the lines and forms of architecture. The building was designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year. Using paper, oil pastels, and painter’s tape, you’ll sketch details of the museum’s distinctive architecture.

Nikolaj Kunsthal

In celebration of Golden Days, Nikolaj Kunsthal invites parents with very young children to a special parental leave tour of Maria Wæhrens’ new solo exhibition. Wæhrens unfolds an intuitive, expressive practice in which painting, sculpture, and wall painting revolve around spirituality, dreams, and sensory experience. The tour begins at 10:00, giving participants the art centre to themselves for the first hour. There is plenty of space for prams, bottles, and nappy changes. Kunst på Barsel was founded by Malou Solfjeld, mother and art historian.

650 kr. ✺ The ticket includes visits to three other galleries and art centres with Kunst Paa Barsel.

Nikolaj Kunsthal 

Rooted in painting, Maria Wæhrens’ solo exhibition unfolds an intuitive and expressive practice centred on spirituality, dreams, and perception in dialogue with the architecture and history of Nikolaj Kunsthal. The exhibition primarily consists of newly produced works – both sculptures and paintings – complemented by murals created directly on the walls.

This summer, Gammel Strand presents the artist’s largest solo exhibition to date in Denmark, unfolding across two floors and creating connections between new and existing works.

Nikolaj Kunsthal

Cosmic rays – high-energy particles from outer space – constantly pass through our surroundings and bodies like an invisible rain. In a new monumental, site-specific (sound) installation, Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm transforms the Lower Gallery into a cosmic listening station.

Gammel Strand

Denmark’s most prominent ceramicist was an artist at heart. Ursula Munch-Petersen (DK, 1937–2025) devoted her life to form-making, and her work – ranging from large-scale public commissions to the well-known URSULA tableware – engages with themes such as climate, care, value systems and the fundamental conditions of life. The exhibition at Gammel Strand is the first since the artist’s passing in 2025 and presents new perspectives on the work of this widely cherished ceramicist.

Museum of Copenhagen

Here the Copenhagen photographer Julie Rønnow’s (1934-) powerful and aesthetically beautiful black-and-white images can be experienced alongside colourful collage installations created by visual artist Julie Boserup (1976-). Visitors are invited to enter a world that unites two women, two generations and two artforms to tell the story of Copenhagen as it once was.

Nikolaj Kunsthal

This autumn, Nikolaj Kunsthal’s project space presents an exhibition developed in collaboration between artist Johan Bech Jespersen and Rewild – a team working across music, art, cultural production, and community building. The Platform programme has been curated by a professional committee consisting of Esben Weile Kjær (artist), Ilethia Sharp (curator, gallerist), Ida Kvetny (artist), and Magnus Kaslov (PhD, SMK – National Gallery of Denmark). The project space Platform has been supported by a three-year grant from the Det Obelske Familiefond.

Gammel Strand

Katharina Sieverding (CZ/DE, b. 1941) participated in the landmark exhibition Kvindeudstillingen XX at Charlottenborg in 1975 and, alongside Marina Abramović and Inge Mahn, was one of the major international stars of her time. Here, Gammel Strand present the spectacular video work Life-Death from 1969.
